Bank deposit guarantees rise
Spain has increased its bank deposit guarantee from the previous 20,000 Euros to the new, higher level, of 100,000 Euros. Bank deposits in Tenerife are protected by this system.
The banking system in Spain is generally perceived to be secure, however many pundits predict that some of the Caja savings banks may be forced to merge as a result of the global credit crisis.
