Changes to traffic fines
Changes to the traffic laws in Tenerife are soon to come into effect
Fines will be proportionate to the potential danger created by the driver:
100 -130€ fines will be imposed for light infractions
200 - 260€ for serious ones
500 - 680€ for the gravest crimes,
Speeding fines will be penalties calculated by amount that the speed limit is exceeded.
Driving licenses will only be suspended in the most serious circumstances, and then, for a maximum of 3 months.
Traffic fines paid voluntarily within fifteen days will a get a 40 per cent discount and a reduced term if there is a license suspension. If those fined through the post neither pay nor respond within a month, there will be no appeal against the penalty.
At the moment, liability for a vehicle rests with the owner, but in future it will be the habitual driver as they are considered to be in a better position to know who was driving.
Car owners will be able to subscribe to receive notifications by email.

A license can be suspended if it does not identify the driver of the vehicle with which a violation has occurred, or the
Non-residents who commit infractions in Spain can be suspended for using the vehicle for a month, besides the loss of scoring points.
