Jobs in Tenerife
Before you start your Tenerife job search, it is worth getting a copy of Tenerife Lifeline. It is important to understand contracts and you rights before you start applying for jobs, or else you will be easier to take advantage of. If you don’t speak Spanish, then employers may try to cut corners to save on tax and social security, at your expense. Buying a copy of Tenerife Lifeline for €9.95 is a small investment to make, and provides a wealth of in formation for Tenerife workers.
Tenerife jobs can be split into two broad categories: jobs if you can speak Spanish, and jobs if you can’t. There are far more Spanish companies, and therefore there are far more jobs for people who speak the language. Just as in the UK and Ireland, there are large sites that specialise in advertising jobs, such as infojobs.net.
If you don’t speak fluent Spanish, then the local English language media advertise jobs on Tenerife and some advertise them on their websites. Some of these may repeat the same jobs you will find on other sites and resources, so if you are job hunting then take care not to call the same number twice!
Oasis FM and their sister newspaper Canarian Weekly both advertise Tenerife jobs. Tenerife News has a classified section which carries adverts for different types of jobs in Tenerife.
Some jobs are advertised on forums, but you may have to become a member in order to apply for them. Try the forums on Sun4free.com, TenerifeForum.com, THETenerifeForum.com and JobsintheCanaries.com for these sorts of postings. You may also be able to post your availability to work in Tenerife on these forums, and attract employers.
There are basically three formats for specialist job seeking websites. Either the employer pays to advertise their Tenerife job vacancy as in JobsinTenerife.net, or the job hunter pays for access to Tenerife job listings, as in TenerifeJobCentre.com. And then some sites, such as JobsinTenerife.com pay for themselves through general advertising.
There are also some general web sites that show job adverts in Tenerife, such as Tenerife-marketing.com.
Don't forget that many companiesin Tenerife will advertise jobs on their own websites.
