Health Centres in Tenerife
There are private doctors and health centres all over Tenerife, but you will have to pay for treatment or have a health insurance policy. A high proportion of expatriates rely on the public health service and though it is far from perfect, in many respects it is seen to be superior to the NHS trusts in the UK.
To gain access to a Tenerife doctor in the public health service you will need to register with a primary healthcare centre (see the Tenerife Lifeline book for details of who qualifies and how to register). To book an appointment at any health centre on the island, call 012.
You can also use the online booking service, known as the Cita Previa by clicking here. Be sure that you have your health card handy as you will need to type in your identification code (CIP). This is a really easy way to book an appointment with your doctor and links directly with the health centres. You can also consult, change and cancel your appintments here.
Health centres in Tenerife are under the administration of the Canarian Health Service, the Servicio Canario de la Salud. Below are links to each of the public service health centres in Tenerife where you can find information such as their address, opening hours and emergency telephone number.
